She resisted, defiantly responding, “I’m not going anywhere.”But that remains to be seen, as the pressure on Cheney from her own side builds.Late last week, the Wyoming Republican Party issued and open letter to Cheney, expressing its disappointment with her participation in what it characterized as the anti-Trump impeachment “travesty.”The party’s letter denounced Cheney’s vote for, among other reasons, representing “the interest of the beltway elites,” siding with “leftists and progressives” who watched left-wing activists “riot, burn, kill, maim, loot and destroy cities” but refused to “condemn their actions,” and abetting Democrats who “are using this to smear the entire conservative movement and all Republicans.”But consider news of the last day or two:First: One county Republican Party group in Wyoming, a state where Trump won 70 percent of the vote last year, voted unanimously to censure Cheney for voting against Trump.The group’s resolution said she had “violated the trust of her voters, failed to faithfully represent a very large majority of motivated Wyoming voters, and neglected her duty to represent the party and the will of the people who elected her to represent them.”The resolution will be sent to the statewide party committee for formal action.Second: Fox News reported that a petition on Change.org demanding a recall vote for Cheney had amassed nearly 39,000 signatures – and counting – as of Wednesday night. That’s almost one-quarter of the nearly 186,000 votes – or 68 percent – Cheney received in last year’ election.Third: Speaking of petitions, The Hill reported that 115 U.S. House Republicans – more than half of the GOP caucus – have committed to support a petition that would oust Cheney from her post within the party.Finally: Fox News also reported that Wyoming state Sen. Anthony Bouchard, a Republican, has filed to challenge Cheney in 2022. “I expect Never Trumpers to do this stuff,” Bouchard wrote on Facebook after the impeachment vote. “But Cheney should be run out of town, and back to Virginia for joining the blame game!”Cheney was first elected to be Wyoming’s only House member in 2016.[smbtoolbar]bloggers like this:
