Earth, as far as any of us know, is the only planet that has all the right ingredients for life. When astronomers gaze out past our solar system in search of new worlds it’s impossible to know exactly what is happening on its surface. Still, by measuring everything that can be measured from afar, we can get a pretty good idea of just how habitable or hostile any given planet might be. Scientists using data gathered by NASA’s Kepler Space Telescope have stumbled upon a planet that checks a lot of the boxes we’d consider crucial in the search for extraterrestrial life. It’s called... READ MORE

A delightfully written and truly engaging piece of science reporting. The Author does a wonderful job of telling a tale alternately both thrilling and, ultimately though, mildly disappointing. Nevertheless, a great deal of information is provided. The quoting, commentary, and sourcing links all add to the exceedingly interesting nature of the work. The writing is crisp and it feels as if the reader is having a friendly and intimate conversation with the Author about the referenced exciting and new scientific discovery. An outstandingly fascinating and worthwhile read. I gave it 4.5 stars instead of five only because it would have been nice to have had a longer exposition on the subject matter.

A very well written, engaging short read about the newly discovered planet. I liked author Mike Wehner's pro and con format for explaining how excited we should be about the discovery and it's potential to foster alien life or perhaps someday humans. Well done for such a brief read.

Good write up, since the discovery is recent, there is likely not much additional information available at this point (sadly); however, this encompasses the positive and negative variables we do know at this time.

I appreciated how the article prefaced the article saying that this is a guess, but an informed guess, and that we can't do better than such guesses given planetary distances.
