The adolescents affected with "severe lung damage" have only one activity/exposure in common and that is vaping. The article makes clear there may be other as yet unknown causes for this alarming medical problem. Because of the young age and increasing numbers of those experiencing the lung damage it is wise to bring the possible link with vaping forward as a warning to the general public. Just as the medical professionals involved are warning their colleagues to be aware of this correlation when evaluating any young person with respiratory symptoms.

The article remains balanced, presenting reliable sources and information around vaping and some doctors concerns that it may be causing lung damage amongst young people. Author Ed Cara doesn't lash out and attack Juul or the other popular vaping companies, but instead is honest about the fact that there is still not enough evidence to know for sure that the kids' lung damage is a result of vaping.

The article is very clear that the link between the recent cases of illness are not 100% linked to vaping, but that vaping is so far the only commonality (and given research on the product a reasonable cause). It also discusses how the effects of vaping on teens (and adults for that matter) is unknown and it also goes into one of the recent lawsuits against Juul about promoting vaping to teens.
