False Dilemma
April 1, 2022
Content will leave the reader discontented for sacrificing valuable time attempting to understand a writing worth nothing more than ridicule. Claiming viewers of the Oscar Ceremony are rooted in anti-blackness because they are anti-violence at the most prestigious award show for film was a bridge too far.

This is a laughably absurd take on the slap heard around the world. The author does an enormous amount of mental gymnastics to lay blame at the feet of white people for Will Smith's undeniably violent outburst and momentary loss of control. She seems to be arguing that nonviolence at the Oscars is a white person thing and that Smith's slap on center stage is therefore a black thing that white people just aren't used to it or comfortable with it? If her goal is to argue on behalf of all black people with this piece, I think she's is doing a disservice by framing it in these "black" and "white" terms. It should instead be framed as "take a joke" or "assault someone in front of the entire world for a joke". When seen in this more accurate framing, it's clear what behavior anyone should expect and hope for from Will Smith or anyone else for that matter.
