CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Norwalk Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on April 28, 2020 at 12:14 PM. The crash occurred on Township Road 73 north of Township Road 122, in Seneca County.Kristopher B. Ward, 27, of Tiffin, OH, was driving a 2004 Jaguar X-Type north on TR 73.Thomas L. Ferguson, 47, of Fremont, OH, was driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand-Prix south on TR 73.Mr. Ward traveled off the right side of the roadway, over-corrected and traveled left of center striking Mr. Ferguson’s vehicle. Mr. Ferguson’s vehicle then traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. Mr. Ward fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office and the Tiffin Police Department.Mr. Ward was wearing a seat-belt at the time of the crash. Once apprehended, he was transported to Tiffin Mercy Hospital by Tiffin Fire Department.Jodi R. Dewald, 52, of Tiffin, OH, was a front right passenger in Mr. Ward’s vehicle. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. She suffered fatal injuries and pronounced deceased at the scene.James D. Chaffee, 29, of Tiffin, OH, was the rear right passenger in Mr. Ward’s vehicle. He was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. He suffered incapacitating injuries and was transported to Tiffin Mercy Hospital by Tiffin Fire Department.Tasha N. Brock, 33, of Tiffin, OH, was the rear left passenger in Mr. Ward’s vehicle. She was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. She suffered incapacitating injuries and was taken to Tiffin Mercy Hospital by Tiffin Fire Department.Mr. Ferguson was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. He suffered incapacitating injuries and was taken to Tiffin Mercy Hospital by Tiffin Fire Department.Drugs are suspected and the crash is still under investigation.Assisting on scene were the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, Tiffin Police Department, Tiffin Fire Department, Clinton Twp. Fire Department, Wilcox Towing and The Seneca County Coroner.
