I just finished a well researched and referenced book by Naomi Oreskes and Erik Conway ‘Merchants of Doubt’ that describe the way a very small number of people managed to convince a large percentage of the US that tobacco smoke does not cause cancer. If this was before you were borne you may not think this was possible. Of course smoking causes cancer. But at the time it wasn’t a slam dunk.
